How do we help those in need?

bus on journey
  • Chatterbus is a registered charity. While operated by a professional bus company, Chatterbus is run by a board of volunteers, thus cutting costs to the bone. Every penny donated to Chatterbus goes into the running of the bus.
  • We are extremely close to the needs of the community – we provide free travel for holders of jobseekers travel cards at any time and, as a new initiative, we are running a three month trial of free travel for families experiencing difficulties. St Andrew’s School, Oasis, and St Mary’s Church Stoke D’Abernon will allocate these tickets.
  • Our new bus (our pride and joy!) was selected not least because it offers easy access for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs, and has plenty of room for shopping trolleys.
  • We have the best and friendliest drivers in Surrey! For many of our passengers, a journey on Chatterbus is not just a matter of getting from A to B, but a social highlight. For some, it is the only conversation they will have in an otherwise solitary week.
  • We are supported by the very generous donations of local bodies, in particular Surrey County Council, Elmbridge Borough Council, Chelsea Football Foundation, and McCarthy & Stone and Levanter Developments, together with many church, community and business groups.

Friends of Chatterbus

Friends of Chatterbus is a new initiative which was set up for a very simple reason: if Chatterbus is to stay on the road, we need to raise thousands of pounds every year.

You will have seen from the rest of the website that this is a fantastic community asset which has become a lifeline for many people in our community who have no other means of making the simple journeys that the rest of us take for granted.

How is this essential service funded? Fare revenues from our many loyal passengers (approximately 19,000 passengers journeys are made a year) and support from our local government sponsors cover about two thirds of our operating costs. This leaves a substantial gap which must be filled by donations from other sponsors, local businesses and residents in order to keep the bus on the road. Friends of Chatterbus has been set up so that local people can show their support through donations.

Regular donation

Make a regular donation by standing order

Make a regular donation by standing order

A steady income we can rely upon enables us to plan for the future, and reduces administration costs. Standing orders are easy and efficient for the donor too. Any amount, donated monthly, quarterly or annually, will be gratefully received. £5 per month is less than the price of two large high street coffees, and barely more than a pint in a Cobham pub!

Download the “Be a Chatterbus Champion” leaflet and send us your completed Standing Order Form or request a leaflet from our treasurer, Leonard Beighton via email at leonard.beighton@chatterbus.org.uk

Become a Supporter

The role Chatterbus is playing in Cobham’s community life, is really important and we hope that all parts of our community will feel able to help.

Ticket revenue provides only a portion of the annual running costs of our bus. If you have a small business in the area and would like to show your support for this community project, you could help keep it on the road with an on-board promotion, donation or partner offer.

If you would like to discuss how you might advertise on the bus or make a donation, please email Fraser Wilson at fraser.wilson@chatterbus.org.uk We would be very pleased to hear from you.

Elmbridge Community
Lottery

Elmbridge Community Lottery is an exciting weekly lottery that raises money for good causes in Elmbridge. All good causes supported by the lottery will benefit Elmbridge and its residents.

Chatterbus has signed up to be one of the good causes, so you can play the Elmbridge Community Lottery and support the Chatterbus.

Tickets for the lottery cost just £1 per week. Each ticket has a 1 in 50 chance to win a prize each week, with a top prize of £25,000!

That’s a better chance of winning than the National Lottery or the Health Lottery! Chatterbus provides a vital link for those needing transport in the Cobham area. It links the Cobham town centre with the station and is the only bus serving the JobCentre (Weybridge) and Brooklands Retail Park from Cobham.

For every ticket you buy Chatterbus gets 50p so please support us so we can continue to offer and even expand our service!

To sign up to play the lottery and nominate Chatterbus as your good cause, click on the button below to be taken to the Elmbridge Lottery website and be in with a chance to have a winning ticket on the first draw on Saturday 28th March 2020. Draws will then take place every Saturday.

Our Local Sponsors

Chatterbus could not run without the help of our three major sponsors – Elmbridge Borough Council, Surrey County Council and Chelsea Foundation.

Specsavers and Levanter Developments have recently become sponsors and we thank them for their support.

We are also grateful to the local businesses and churches whose donations have helped us to get this important service off the ground.
